"In our society, the ideal self is bold, gregarious, and comfortable in the spotlight. We like to think that we value individuality, but mostly we admire the type of individual who's comfortable 'putting himself out there." - Susan Cain
This is what is very wrong with society. We all watch these individuals chase their dreams, and we never fully realize that in order to do the same thing, individuality is needed. People understand how important individuality is, but they never decide to stop conforming and just be themselves. Some people admire people who have characteristics that they don't, but those people are just being themselves. Its so hard to step out of society and carve your own path in life, but those people are admired by some, but some people disapprove. |
