Caitlyn Jenner is perceived as already achieving the American dream. She is an Olympic gold medalist, she's on a T.V show, and is part of one of the most wealthiest family's in America. Not only that but most people in America know who she is. Some people would say she's living successfully, but not to her. Caitlyn Jenner wasn't being herself for many years. In this interview Caitlyn states “I look at this way. Bruce: always telling a lie. He’s lived a lie his whole life about who he is. I can’t do that any longer.” She had to lie to society to make sure everyone was accepting of her. She also states "It was hard to say. I didn't want to disappoint people." Disappointing people has been one of the challenges with this situation, "Do you have any idea what I've been going through all my life? And they're going to say I'm doing this for publicity for a show." She has been going through something that no one should have to go through.
Her life changing decision is extremely important. As said above she described her life as a lie. She didn't know how to identify herself and that not only put her through deep depression but years of confusion. Her life in front of the camera wasn't her speaking, but society. From the outside, she looked like she was living the American Dream, but gender identity had a huge toll on her truly grasping the American Dream. She was not mentally successful. Not wanting to disappoint people was a huge struggle for her, and that's exactly why being yourself can actually make you even more successful. Now that this secret is out she can finally act like she's wanted to for so long and show her individuality. Her just being herself will launch her further to reaching the American Dream in it's entirety. |
